The efforts of the Goldcorp Professorship in Women in Engineering at UBC are focused around three primary initiatives: Signature events; Modular Delivery and Partnerships:
Signature events are outreach experiences for Grade 8, 9 and 10 girls, where they participate in hands-on engineering activities, and teacher training events, where teachers learn about why they should talk about engineering and why they should encourage young women to consider engineering careers. We tell our stories, show students and teachers how we work and help change the way that they see our field.
We must expand our geographic region to engage young women throughout British Columbia. Our signature events are tailored into modules that can be taken on the road and delivered to students and teachers outside of the Lower Mainland. Our goal is to make sure that every young woman in BC has an opportunity to participate in our programs.
To have the greatest impact, we are developing partnerships to help us deliver and expand our program and to seek out new opportunities. We are looking for professionals that share our vision, developing student leaders who can share their stories and collaborating with community groups to ensure we are working towards the common goal of transforming young women’s perceptions of their possibilities and opportunities.
